Groundwork North Wales

Awarded £1.2million in 2017, the project aims to improve a number of green spaces and clear waste, working with volunteers.

Due to run until late 2023, the project encourages people to get out and about for their wellbeing and to appreciate the natural world. One example, Wellies in the Woods, organised outdoor activities for children during the summer holidays.
As with many organisations, the pandemic hampered their work, but they have re-engaged. In March 2022, the project re-established an event to raise awareness and organise a litter pick called Quay Clean 2022. Richard Aram explained:

"Following the successful initial event in 2019 we had to cancel 2020 and 2021, however we were able to run a reduced event in March 2022.
The initiative involves a range of partners helping to deliver a week of litter picking and related activities. This year we could not include the schools, but the initiative was supported by Keep Wales Tidy, Friends of Wepre Park, Wild Ground, Friends of Quayscape Gardens and Flintshire County Council.
Five events were held, clearing 70 bags of rubbish and large fly tipped items from different green spaces.”
